The Cabinet Secretary, Ministry of Public Service and Delivery Management, Mosses Kuria, unveiled the National Youth Service Reengineering program during his inaugural visit to the NYS headquarters in Ruaraka.

He announced that as part of the Kenya Kwanza government, his first priority is to ensure that public servants prioritize their jobs.

Kuria expressed his commitment to improving Kenya and stated that he would visit the NYS regularly to work towards this goal.

He also emphasised that the government would enhance the Huduma Center and hire individuals from the NYS.

Kuria said it was important for NYS to collaborate with the Kenya School of Government to improve the legal system.

He noted that the young men and women in the NYS would eventually replace the elderly in various roles.

Reflecting on his own experiences, Kuria mentioned that NYS had posed challenges for him, as he faced legal issues in 2015. Nevertheless, he stated that NYS would become a center of gravity in the country under his leadership.

Kuria further outlined his commitment to making NYS the government's top priority and a central pillar of discipline in the country.

He described himself as the Chief Marketing Officer of NYS and stressed that job seekers would need to go through NYS to secure employment.

He also pledged to work tirelessly to provide job opportunities both domestically and internationally.

Kuria highlighted that NYS would play a significant role in the government-to-government program, thanking the President for his support in helping young people get back on track.

"In line with the President's approval, individuals over the age of 60 should retire, and NYS would be a crucial gateway to government employment," he said.

"I urge the youth to focus on positivity and hard work, emphasising the need to avoid negativity and seek opportunities."

He announced that, in partnership with the National Police Service, 3,000 officers would be recruited from NYS by the end of the year, and an additional 1500 would be employed in KWS.

Furthermore, he approved the recruitment of 15,000 individuals for the police force in the next cycle, with the condition that they pass through NYS to be eligible for the program.

Kuria concluded by revealing that on June 30th, 2024.

"NYS would receive 24 million seedlings as part of their carbon trading initiative," he said.

"This program aims to transform NYS into a beacon of hope for young people, making it a mandatory leadership college for those entering public service and the discipline force, while also directly recruiting 100,000 youths annually and creating an ecosystem of 1 million indirect jobs."
