Politician Maina Njenga has said the cases he is facing in court should dropped, citing the successful bipartisan talks.

In an exclusive interview with the Star, Njenga alleged that his troubles rocked during the Azimio La Umoja anti-government protests.

"Mimi wakati niliona bei ya bidhaa inaenda juu, mambo haiendi vizuri, tulianza maandamano kupinga hali ngumu ya maisha. Hapo ndio mambo iliianza. Na sasa maandamano imeisha na imeleta watu chini waongee," he said.

This is loosely translated to: "When I saw that the cost of living had gone up, and things weren't going well, we started demos against the cost of living, and that's when things started. Demos are over, and now people have met for talks".

"If these people are really for peace and reconciliation, all these cases must be thrown out because they are political cases," he added.

He alleged that the exhibits that were presented in his case, were first posted on social media, to make the matter worse.

"For example, kama mapanga, before niletewe zilikua zimeingia Social media. Nikumaanisha hii case ilikua imepangwa, ni kama kujaribu kutwa mdomo," he said.

"William Ruto kama president wa Kenya, toweni hizi case tuwe na amani."

Njenga added that if the government was open to giving dialogue a chance, then the cases should also be reviewed and withdrawn.

"We ate routing for peace, and as we are now peaceful as a country, we should continue as such."

With NJenga's appeal, it is keen to note that constitutionally, the Court is the only body mandated to acquit an individual of their cases.

Njenga is facing charges of planning and organising demonstrations.

He was charged with being found with Maasai rungus, bows, and arrows among other things.

The charge sheet read that on July 20, 2023, in Kiserian within Kajiado, without reasonable excuse, the three were found in possession of offensive weapons; 14 machetes, 24 Maasai swords, 46 rungus and three jembe sticks.

The charge sheet said the circumstances raised a reasonable presumption that the said offensive weapons were intended to be used in a manner prejudicial to public order.
