Sleuths from the Ethics and Anticorruption Commission (EACC) have arrested an imposter who has been presenting himself as a forensic investigator at the agency.

The suspect identified as Shadrack Kariira Ndegwa was arrested Tuesday evening at Turraco bar along Thika Road after a month-long search.

According to EACC deputy CEO Abdi Mohamud, the suspect has been pretending to be a very powerful officer with close connections with EACC CEO Twalib Mbarak among other heads of security and law enforcement agencies.

In some instances, he could also pose as an operative from NIS or DCI Forensic investigator, he said.

“The suspect has been contacting senior public officers and business persons purporting to have incriminating information against them and has been asking for huge sums of money to assist them in evading prosecution,” said Mohamud.

He pointed out that the agency received numerous complaints from victims about the man forcing it to commence investigations.

When the suspect got wind he was being sought by EACC, he went into hiding until his arrest.

He is now being held at the EACC Integrity Centre police station with the agency calling on those who may have been conned by the suspect to visit the EACC offices.

His arrest comes in the wake of similar complaints of persons posing as staff members of EACC, DCI, Police, NIS, and DPP.

This is as the agency urged the public to remain vigilant and report all suspected fraudsters through Toll-Free No. 1551.

“The Commission has continued to receive complaints of persons posing as staff members of EACC, DCI, Police, NIS, and DPP presenting themselves to targeted sections of the public purporting to be investigating corruption-related matters and seeking to extort money and other favours from their victims, purportedly to assist them out of the investigations,” he stated.
