Nacada on Wednesday appointed Anthony Omerikwa as the new CEO.

Omeribwa who is the former NSSF CEO takes over from John Muteti who has been holding the position in an acting capacity since May 16.

Muteti will now revert to his role as the director, of Research Policy and Planning at the authority.

“The authority has this morning welcomed the new CEO Dr Anthony Omerikwa who has officlly taken over from the immediate acting CEO Prof John Muteti,” Nacada said.

“The ceremony was presided over by the board chairman Victor Mairori. Prof Muteti reverts to his substantive position of director policy and planning at the authority,” it added.

Nacada in May when announcing Muteti as the acting CEO stated the position was set to be filled competitively.

Muteti took over from Victor Okioma who was proceeding on retirement as his five years term came to an end.

Muteti has during his short stint as the CEO steered the authority in the fight against drug abuse and alcoholism.

Nacada has adopted a different approach to the campaign against alcohol and drug abuse, following political goodwill from the country’s top leadership, Parliament and other state organs.

This approach has seen more public participation and community involvement at the grassroots.

Muteti reiterated the authority's commitment to come up with empowerment programmes for reformed brewers.

This was amid concerns from brewers that the government was fighting their only source of income adding that the ongoing crackdown on the sale of illicit brews in the country will breed unemployment.

Muteti said the authority working in collaboration with counties, the national government, NGOs, CBOs, and other well-wishers will come up with empowerment programmes to support reformed brewers.

Nacada is a semi-autonomous state corporation under the Ministry of Interior and Coordination.

The Authority works with schools, workplaces, colleges, universities, technical institutions, county governments, ministries, parastatals, faith-based institutions, CBOs, NGOs, self-help groups as well as individuals interested in a society free from alcohol and drug abuse.
