Mbeere North MP Geoffrey Ruku has opined that the talks by the bipartisan team is a waste of time and money as the government is doing what it can to lower the cost of living.
According to Ruku, there is no need for the bipartisan team to discuss the cost of living when there is a premium stage known as the National Assembly where the issue can be discussed.
"Kenya has a government which wakes up very early, sleeps late to ensure there are strategies and programmes in place to bring down the cost of living," he said in an interview with Citizen Tv.
He also said that the cost of living is one of the motions being discussed by the Senate and National Assembly.
"In the National Assembly, we have both the majority and minority who can discuss the issue."
Ruku said that whatever the bipartisan team is discussing is just a repetition of what is being done just to appease some political egos.
"Unfortunately the Government has political bad manners and hopes President Ruto will lead Kenya in a better way," he added.
In October, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) highlighted the high cost of living as one of the major issues at the heart of its participation in the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO) talks.
Raila's secretary Oduor Ong’wen in a statement said the high cost of living remains their top priority and is non-negotiable.
"We are deeply concerned that while the talks are ongoing, the current regime continues to implement measures that exacerbate the cost of living, including fuel price hikes and the introduction of new and punitive taxes and levies," he stated.
The National Dialogue Committee(NADCO) has since taken a break until Monday.
The committee tasked the Technical Team to compile submissions received from the economic experts.
Kalonzo said the team will be expected to complete the exercise by Monday next week when they will resume sittings.
