Kenya Red Cross has announced a total of 13,473 people residing in the North Eastern region have been displaced following the harsh impact of floods.
The organization said a total of 26,011 families have been affected following floods as a result of El Nino.
The counties are; Wajir, Garissa, and Mandera, where people have mostly been affected, with homes submerging and lives disrupted.
"Kenya Red Cross teams are on the ground responding, attending to the immediate needs of those affected including the provision of shelter, essential non-food items, water, sanitation and hygiene services."
On Sunday, leaders from the region called on different bodies to help mitigate the situation in the counties saying schools have been moored following heavy rains, adding that the situation could be worse than that of the 1997.
"We are asking the President to upscale the emergency response required as county government is not adequately resourced and this is something that requires a larger effort. More rains are affecting even Ethiopia."
"While rains are a blessing for us, we are not prepared adequately in this matter," the Mandera governor Ali Maalim said on Sunday.
He added that El-Nino is a natural disaster, and no amount of preparedness can avert it -Just like wildfires, hurricanes, and earthquakes.
"In any case, counties are not sufficiently resourced to deal with disasters of that magnitude, as, for the roads and major links in Northern Kenya, not less than 1/2 a trillion can get us a semblance of decent roads - Talk about 10B that's 50 per cent wages.
The appeal came after three people, 65-year-old Rukia Abdullahi, Feiza Abdirahman, 15, and Fawzia Ali, 15, were reported dead after they fell into a flooded ditch.
The teens, Feiza and Fawzia sat the just-concluded KCPE exam.

In the latest weather forecast, the department has warned that heavy rainfall is expected to continue in most parts of the country.
Met also said it anticipated a reduction in spatial coverage and rainfall amounts during the latter half of the forecast period.
The weatherman said isolated storms may occur in specific regions, including the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, and the Coast.
"In these areas, moderate average maximum daytime temperatures ranging between 20°C and 30°C are anticipated," the forecast shows.
"Similarly, moderate average minimum night-time temperatures between 10°C and 20°C are expected."
Morning rains are expected over several places reducing to a few places as the forecast period progresses.
"Afternoon and night rains, along with thunderstorms, are likely to occur over several places in these same regions," the forecast said.
"Night showers are expected over a few places occasionally spreading to several places."
