'Kindly save Kawira' MCAs' lawyer representing MCAs mistakenly says

Mwangaza's fate will be determined on Wednesday in a decisive vote.

In Summary
  • "I am sorry, save Meru, my apologies, save the entire people of Meru and not the governor," the lawyer continued.
  • This is the second time the governor will face trial in the Senate after only 10 months.

Senate was on Tuesday left surprised after the lawyer representing Meru County Assembly MCAs mistakenly declared that the senator should save Governor Kawira Mwangaza.

As he was making his submission at the Senate, Marius Maranya, erroneously said: "Kindly save the governor."

With this, Maranya immediately retracted his statement following a mixed uproar from the Senate floor.

"I am sorry, save Meru, my apologies, save the entire people of Meru and not the governor," the lawyer continued.

Maranya further urged the house to impeach the governor to save the county and help the governor save her private job.

"At the opportune time, we shall demonstrate that the centre cannot hold any more, and we will be urging you to save the member of the assembly with the back and forth, to and from the senate for the same issues raised," he added.

The Senate is currently hearing the impeachment of the governor, with a lined up of nine lawyers to defend her.

Mwangaza's lawyers will be given a chance to cross-examine the witnesses. The senators will ask or seek clarifications from the witnesses.

Mwangaza's fate will be determined on Wednesday in a decisive vote.

This is the second time the governor will face trial in the Senate after only 10 months.

On Wednesday, the governor will take the stand to defend herself against particular allegations raised by the county assembly.

Mwangaza will present her witnesses who shall be cross-examined by the county assembly.

Later, the House shall give the parties the opportunity to give final remarks before they break for a few minutes to allow members to deliberate on the accusations.

A motion shall then be moved to debate the arguments by the parties before the lawyers take a vote by delegation (elected members only).

At least 24 elected senators will be required to vote in favour of the motion to uphold the governor's ouster from office.
