Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza has been urged to rise above her impeachment tribulations and get down to work for residents after senators reversed her removal from office.

Senators last night voted against all the seven charges MCAs had levelled against Governor Mwangaza when they impeached her two weeks ago.

And now, Maendeleo ya Wanawake chairperson Rehab Muiu wants the Meru governor to forgive the ward representatives as she settles down to work.

"The Governor should not embark on a revenge mission but dwell on development for the people of Meru," Muiu told the Star.

It was the second time in less than two years that the governor had been impeached and the move reversed at the Senate.

Muiu said Mwangaza was elected on an independent ticket and used all that it takes as a woman to win the 2022 elections and thus should be given enough time to work for the electorate.

She urged Meru residents and leaders to separate the governor's private life from politics.

Mwangaza was first impeached in December 2022 just three months after she was sworn into office. Muiu said it was difficult to judge her performance at that time given she had just been in office for only three months.

She commended the governor's survival for the impeachment for the second time stating that it should be the last attempt to remove her from office.

"The governor has been resilient, focused and graceful throughout the times of tribulations. Indeed she was ranked among top performing governors after scoring 63 per cent," Muiu said.

She said Mwangaza's election as governor was a huge encouragement to the women of Kenya and more so the girls of Meru.

"When she is taken through what she has been taken through, then what does that mean to the young girls in the next 20 years," Muiu said.

She urged to county chief to reflect on her leadership and avoid issues that can engineer her impeachment motion in future.
