Governor ni nani? Governor ni mama! These were the words of several women leaders celebrating outside the Senate after Kawira Mwangaza survived impeachment.
Led by Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo, the women celebrated Mwangaza's survival.
Other leaders present were; Public Service Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria, Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga, former nominated senator Millicent Omanga, and ex-Wajir Woman Rep Fatuma Gedi among others.
"Kaende, kaende! Kabaki, Kabaki! Governor wa Meru ni mama."
The Meru governor hugged the leaders as they celebrated her impeachment survival.
Nakuru Governor Susan Kihika thanked the Senate for following its conscience and doing the right thing by reinstating Kawira.
"There is a God in Heaven who is just and fair. To the Senate, Thank You! Thank You! Thank You for following your conscience and doing the right thing! My sister Gov Kawira more grace! Continue serving the great people of Meru County! It is well," she said in an X post.
Machakos Governor Wavinya Ndeti congratulated Mwangaza, saying she was happy her colleague was set free.
"As I said earlier, God will never forsake you, he has fought this battle for you. Kudos to our senate for standing with the truth. Governor Kawira can now accelerate much-needed development for the people of Meru," she said.
"Kabaki, kabaki, kaende, kaende."
Former Woman Rep Cate Waruguru asked Mwangaza to move forward stronger.
"Adjust your crown, wear it with honour. We are leaving everything behind, bygone male chauvinism, anger, inadequacy, the turbulence that was meant to see you defeated," she said
The senators voted to throw out all seven charges fronted against the governor by the Meru county assembly.
"The result of the division indicates the senate has not upheld any of the charges. Therefore, the Senate has failed to remove from office the governor by impeachment. The governor accordingly continues to hold office," Speaker Amason Kingi said while announcing the official results of the voting exercise.
