Breakthrough International Bible University bestowed honorary degrees upon accomplished Kenyan individuals at a significant event held on October 28, 2023, at the Oasis Global United Methodist Mission Church in Dallas, Texas.
The ceremony, overseen by Rev. Lukas Njenga from Glasgow, Scotland, marked a notable achievement in acknowledging these outstanding individuals for their remarkable contributions across various fields.
Among the distinguished recipients was Mumbi Baskin, the visionary behind the highly acclaimed Afrika Fusion restaurant in Dallas, known for its culinary excellence.
Additionally, Alex Karundu, a prominent figure in the trucking industry and a key player at Sea Gate Holdings, was recognized for his substantial contributions to the transportation sector.
Karundu expressed;
"Even though I've made significant strides in the trucking business, my greatest pride stems from serving humanity."
Having come from humble beginnings in Ting'ang'a village in Kiambu County, Karundu's story is a source of inspiration for young people.
He intends to continue mentoring through the Karundu Foundation.
He currently serves as the chair of the Successful Lewisville Declaration, the acting chair of the continental US Diaspora of Mount Kenya, the founder board member of the East African Chamber of Commerce based in Dallas, and the emeritus chairman of the Kenya Advisory Council of Texas.
Karen Henry Muigai, a paragon of leadership, and Grace Chege, a devoted advocate for women's empowerment, were also lauded for their influential roles in their respective fields.
