Cabinet Secretary for Gender, Culture, The Arts and Heritage Aisha Jumwa has proposed an increase in admission fees for the site.
In a draft proposal dubbed: 'The National Museums and Heritage (Admission fees) Regulations,2023', the CS wants an individual who is non-resident in Kenya and a resident outside East Africa to pay an increased fee of $15 (Sh2,250) for adult and children below the age of 18 will pay $7 (Sh1,050) at the Nairobi National Museum.
The rates are for the first year onwards upon entry into force of the proposed regulations.
"The National Museums and Heritage (Admission fees) Regulations 2012 are hereby repealed," the draft read.
For adult Kenyans, to visit the Nairobi National Museum, they will pay Sh300 for the first year onward upon the implementation of the new regulations, Sh350 for the second year, and Sh400 for the third year.
If implemented, this will be an increase of Sh100.
For those below the age of 18 years, to visit the same premises, they will pay Sh150(1st year), Sh200(2nd year), and Sh200(3rd year).
The above charges will be the same for Kenyans who want to tour The Snake Park, which has been increased by Sh100.
However, for double charges of both the National Museum and the Snake Park, Kenyan adults will pay Sh450(1st year), Sh500(2nd year) and Sh600(3rd year) additionally, Kenyans below the age of 18 years will pay Sh300(1st year), Sh350(2ndyear) and h400(3rd year).
In Fort Jesus, if the new charges are effected, adults will pay Sh300(1st year), Sh350(2nd year), and Sh400(3rd year).
For every child over three years and below eighteen years, they will pay Sh150(1st year), Sh200(2nd year), and Sh200(3rd year).
To visit the Nairobi Gallery, Kenyans will now pay Sh200(1st year), Sh250(2nd year), and Sh300(3rd year) for adults. This will be up from Sh150.

The government has now called for comments and public participation on the proposed fees.
"The public is requested to review the aforementioned and provide comments by way of memoranda by November 21, 2023."
