Police in Nairobi have arrested three persons and recovered a manmade pistol in a botched robbery incident.

The trio included a 19-year-old woman who, according to police, had attempted to rob a taxi driver at Juja in Kiambu.

A report filed at Kasarani police station by the driver states that he received a call from one of the suspects requesting to be driven to Statehouse Road in the Kilimani area.

The man, in the company of two others, would later arrive and board the vehicle where on reaching Githurai, one of them drew the pistol and pointed at the driver ordering him to stop.

“The driver declined to stop and instead sped off directly to Kasarani police station...on sensing that they were at the police station, the two men jumped out and escaped,” the police report says.

It was after the driver had raised an alarm that the police who were manning the gate gave them a chase where they successfully managed to arrest them at a petrol station along Mwiki road.

Upon a quick search, they were found with the fake pistol capable of firing, a pair of scissors and a screwdriver.

The suspects were placed in custody pending investigations with the items being kept as exhibits.

Police believe the two others aged 22 and 23 years are part of a gang that has in the recent past been engaged in robbery incidents in various parts of Eastlands.

Their arrest comes a week after a suspected thug was shot and killed by police after a dramatic chase in a robbery incident at Dandora.

Police said they recovered a homemade gun from the suspect in the drama in the Canaan area.

According to police, residents complained two young men were riding on a motorcycle along Canaan Bridge who were terrorizing the public.

They had been riding there while robbing residents of their cash and mobile phones.

Police rushed to the scene and found them in the act prompting a brief chase that left one suspect dead.

The deceased was a pillion passenger who fell off after being shot at, police said. The rider managed to escape.

Police said they also recovered a knife and some of the stolen mobile phones from the slain suspect.

Up to five suspects have been shot dead by police in the past week in the war on armed crime in the city.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they have intensified operations in the city to tame criminals behind the trend of crimes in general.

He said they have deployed more officers on major streets to address the menace.

"We continue to urge for public support in this war on crime. With public support we will win," he said.,
