Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi has issued a stern call for action from the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) after a tragic incident where a pack of hyenas claimed the life of a nine-year-old boy in Juja farm a month ago.

Wamatangi while speaking at Witeithie on Wednesday, emphasized that the menace of wild animals preying on residents in Juja could not be tolerated.

He revealed he had already engaged in discussions with KWS during which they agreed to take decisive measures to protect the local population from further attacks.

"If KWS won't act as agreed upon, we will take matters into our own hands and eliminate all hyenas terrorizing our communities," he said.

He called locals to attend a meeting alongside officials from KWS next week noting that they will discuss how the menace and compensation should be done.

Wamatangi further said that he has no issue with elected leaders noting that they are now committed to working together for the benefit of electorates.

He emphasized the county's ongoing transformation and urged residents to support his efforts.

He disclosed significant financial allocations for construction of markets and healthcare facilities in Witeithie.

"I am deeply committed to providing the best services to the people of Kiambu," he affirmed.

He further assured the community that the county was well-prepared to handle any potential disasters.

Wamatangi said a disaster Rapid Response Team has been formed and Sh50 million allocated to cater for it.

“We shall have people drawn from the County Commissioner’s office, the police, water department and the county assembly whose duty will be to respond to any reported disasters,” he announced
