Lesotho Prime Minister Sam Matekane has termed the Youth Connekt Africa as the surest way of achieving youth empowerment in Africa.

The PM said the programme, which seeks to harness the youth's potential has reinvigorated the course for true African reinasence.

Making remarks at the Youth Connekt Africa Summit in Nairobi, Matekane said the empowerment of the youth will be achieved through experiences and knowledge sharing.

''This will be part of the solutions for Africa's development,'' the PM said on Saturday.

In achieving youth empowerment in Africa, the Lesotho PM warned that the continent cannot ignore the power of technology and digitisation.

''Youths should innovate more and come up with modern solutions that make us one continent that is better with itself,'' he said.

Saying that Lesotho is not yet a member of the Youth Connekt Africa, Matekane said his country was well represented in the Nairobi Summit with youth and government representatives at the highest level.

''I am happy to inform you that in the lead up to the Youth Connekt Africa Summit, my government held a week-long event known as Sibabato, meaning precious,'' he said.

The PM said that the event was his initiative as part of his agenda to push for youth empowerment in Lesotho and aims at creating a platform to work together to expand opportunities.

He said his administration is seeking to enhance the visibility of youth enterprises, innovation initiatives and investments, and getting linkages with partners.

''Witnessing this event is a true spirit of African renascence,'' the PM said in his remarks.

''I want to appreciate and congratulate President Paul Kagame for pioneering this initiative in Rwanda and the subsequent adoption by the African Union.''

The PM said that his Sibabato initiative seeks to give youth opportunities to harness their talents and innovation.

''The top ten youth from this initiative are here with us as they joined my delegation to this event,'' he said.

Youth Connekt Africa is an African home-grown solution positioned to provide relevant solutions for the global South and to support the implementation of relevant South-South initiatives to empower youth.

The YouthConnekt Africa operates as a pan-African platform with the vision of connecting African youth for socio-economic transformation.

The platform seeks to empower young people through enhancing their knowledge, experiences and skills while investing in their ideas, innovations and initiatives.
