MP Fafi Salah Yakub has claimed that he was assaulted while seeking passport services at Nyayo House, Nairobi.

Yakub in a post on X, on Monday, called on Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki and the Independent Policing Oversight Authority to look into the matter.

"CS Kindiki Kithure and IPOA, it very unfortunate that police officers at Nyayo house are mishandling the general public and today I fell a victim, roughed up and seriously assaulted," the MP said.

Following the alleged assault, Yakub said he sustained injuries on his left foot and arm.

The legislator said Kenyan Somalis particularly face a challenge as they are required to pay bribes for services.

He further alleged that he is not the only MP who has experienced the assault at Nyayo House.

He accused a police officer of collecting bribes at the Nyayo House saying the cop treats MPs from North Eastern badly.

"The officer verily mishandled most NEP MPs. Am the 6th MP to be humiliated by that contingent. Waziri take action!" he said.

Responding to the allegations, Nairobi Regional Police Commander Adamson Bungei said they will conduct investigations if and when the complainant makes a formal report.

He said it is not right for one to mob lynch and accuse police on social media.

“We need to hear from both sides. What we are seeing is a post accusing an officer who probably was doing her work,” he said.

Bungei added the MP was yet to report the said assault.
