Over 21 city taps to run dry amid heavy rains

Nairobi water said this is due to the emergency shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline.

A dry water tap

The Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company has announced that 31 areas will from Friday, December 15, experience water interruption. 

In a statement, the company said this is due to the emergency shutdown of the Sasumua-Kabete pipeline. 

"The shutdown will start on Friday, December 15 from  7.00 am to Saturday, December 16 2023 at 7.00 am," the statement read. 

Further, Nairobi Water said the main aim of the shutdown is to facilitate the repair of major leaks along the pipeline. 

"If the repairs are not conducted, and contained, it will lead to major landslides, resulting in more damage to the pipeline."

The areas set to be affected are; International School of Kenya, Kinanda Valley, Kihingo Valley and Magnolia, Waiyaki Way Road, James Gichuru Road, Dennis Pritt Road, Ngong Road, Langata Road, Peponi Road, Kikuyu Road, Naivasha Road, Mbagathi road and River Side Drive, whole of Lavington, Kilimani and Westlands,

Others are; Parklands, Loresho, Kangemi, Uthiru, Karen, Kawangware, Riruta, Langata, Kibera, Dam Estate, Kileleshwa, Nyayo Highrise Kibera, Ngumo and Woodly Estates among others in the adjacent areas.

"We request all customers in the affected areas to use their stored water sparingly during the period of interruption," the company said.
