A police officer based in Kisumu was on Saturday electrocuted by a charged cloth line.

Peter Osiya who was attached to the Huduma Centre in Kisumu was electrocuted at around 7:30 am within Kisumu central police lines.

According to the Occurrence Book, one Sergent Caleb Efumbi reported that there was an electrocution incident within the Kisumu police lines.

Kisumu Central OCS, Kenya Power personnel and Security Operations Centre personnel then rushed to the scene which was about one kilometer East of the station

At the scene, Osiya's body was found lying lifeless on his back with his hands firmly clenched on the cloth line.

The body had visible burn wounds on his hands and stomach.

"Preliminary reports indicate that the cloth line may have been charged after it came into contact with an electric powerline following a heavy downpour which had caused a tree to fall onto the power line," the OB report stated.

Police processed the scene and removed the body which was taken to Star Mortuary in Kisumu awaiting autopsy.
