The Kenya Kwanza will use the country’s diplomatic missions abroad to build a strong and stable economy, Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has announced.

Gachagua noted that diplomatic missions promote, protect and project the image of Kenya abroad.

“They have a direct contribution to optimal performance of our trade, remittance from Kenyans abroad, foreign direct investment and strategic partnership among others,” he explained.

The DP reiterated that President William Ruto’s administration will seek to reap maximum benefit from foreign missions as one of the avenues of rebuilding the economy.

Gachagua made the remarks on X after having an engagement with new ambassadors, high commissioners, consuls-general, and deputy heads of mission at his Karen residence.

He urged them to emphasise economic diplomacy, as they begin their new assignment.

“Indeed, their optimal performance will propel our country's diplomatic profile as a strategic investment destination on the global stage,” he said.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs Musalia Mudavadi attended the meeting.

Others were Cabinet Secretaries Alfred Mutua (Tourism), Simon Chelugui (Cooperatives), Secretary to the Cabinet Mercy Wanjau, Principal Secretary for Foreign Affairs Singoei Korir and his Diaspora counterpart Roseline Njogu.

On November 24, 2023, Ruto appointed 29 representatives to foreign missions.

They filled envoy roles in South Africa, India, Rwanda, Botswana, Malaysia, Angola, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, among others.
