State House Spokesperson Hussein Mohamed has defended President William Ruto over his Christmas donations to hundreds of people at his Sugoi home, in Uasin Gishu County.

Ruto came under attack from some Kenyans after residents from Uasin Gishu and neighbouring Nandi and Kakamega counties thronged Ruto’s home for early Christmas giveaways.

“Unbelievable how some (whose sport is to find fault at everything as the President said) would criticise sharing with the people,” Mohamed said on X.

Ruto was accused of putting in place punitive tax measures, which critics said had turned Kenyans into beggars.

In a festive gesture of goodwill, Ruto and First Lady Rachel Ruto welcomed residents to their rural home on Friday.

“If you're against sharing with your neighbours and humanity, you might want to check if your heart's still beating. Being mean is a bad thing, but it’s even worse to campaign against sharing with humanity,” Mohamed added.

The residents jammed roads as early as 4 am as goodies were offloaded from several lorries at his Sugoi home.

Long queues filled up by joyous residents as they receive packets of wheat flour, cooking oil and rice.

Speaking during the occasion, Ruto called on Kenyans to have a positive outlook on their nation no matter what, adding that challenges were being resolved.

He said though the economy is in recovery, Kenyans should be optimistic that one day all shall be well.
