Kajiado Central MP Elijah Kanchory has announced he will be seeking re-election in 2027 in President William Ruto’s UDA party.

Kanchory said he now supports fully Ruto's transformative agenda.

“I have been elected three times on the ODM ticket but in the 2027 general election, God willing, I will vie on the president’s party,” he said.

Speaking in Laikipia where he had accompanied Ruto on a development tour, Kanchory said the programs currently being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration and across the country were beneficial to the populace.

He cited the Affordable Housing Project which he said will revolutionise the country urging Kenyans to support it.

“Your, Excellency, you have changed the conversation of this country. There is no other person who will come looking for a presidential seat without talking about the needs of the people and you understand the needs of these people,” he said.

According to Kanchory, the Azimio government could not have managed to deliver on its agenda had it won.

Kanchory has been opposition leader Raila Odinga’s point man in the Maa community.

The Maa community has been one of Raila’s traditional bases and has religiously supported his presidential bids over the years.

Last September, Kanchory urged the Maa leaders in Kajiado to rally behind Ruto even as he dared Raila to expel him.

“If he wants us to return to the voters, we will go. But let Raila know that there are no votes carried in bags, the votes are with the people,” he said.

Raila has severally accused MPs associating with the President of betrayal and has vowed to expel them from the Orange party to trigger by-elections.
