Health Cabinet Secretary Susan Nakhumicha has vowed to use her new opportunity at the World Economic Forum to champion and advance women’s agenda on health and economic empowerment.
Nakhumicha said she will also amplify and advocate Kenya's commitment to prioritizing the well-being of the women.
Women’s health, she noted, is founded on the conviction that an investment in their health is vital in the building of thriving societies and economies globally.
The CS is set to represent the country at the Forums’ Global Alliance for Women's Health board.
Alongside other board members, Nakhumicha will be tasked with building new evidence-based investment showcasing socio-economic returns for advancing girls' and women’s health.
She will also be in charge of co-creating new narratives that resonate with stakeholders in the political, financial, and corporate spheres on why they should invest in women's health.
The board’s objective is to advance women's agenda on health, equity, and economic empowerment.
Council of Governors’ chairperson Ann Waiguru who revealed about it said Kenya was proud of her.
“…a hearty congratulations to my sister CS Nakhumicha on your appointment to the World Economic Forum's Global Alliance for Women's Health. Our UHC aspiration for all has an excellent ambassador in you on the global stage,” she wrote.
Her appointment follows yet another feather to her cap after she was picked as the chairperson of the East, Central, and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) Conference of Health Ministers.
The appointment was made during the 71st ECSA-HC health ministers’ conference between February 8-9, 2023, in Lesotho.
“I am honoured to take up the Chair of the Health Ministers Conference on behalf of the Republic of Kenya,” the CS said in an acceptance speech.
She expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead the ECSA-HC in its efforts to improve health services and attain the highest possible standards of health for citizens across the region.
Nakhumicha also acknowledged the challenges faced by member states in responding to the COVID-19 pandemic and called for continued collaboration to build resilient health systems.
Honoured to represent Kenya as a member of @WEF's Global Alliance for Women’s Health Board. The objective of the Board is to advance women's agenda on health, equity, and economic empowerment.
