Achani warns parents against forging results to get bursaries

The Kwale governor claimed there have been cases where parents were allegedly caught changing marks to surpass the county sponsorship marks of 350 and above.

In Summary
  • Normally, the county caters school fees for national school students who scored 350 from public schools and 370 marks from private institutions.

  • “Some parents are omitting their children’s results to have the full education scholarship. If it’s 300 they rewrite it to 350 marks which is very wrong,” Achani claimed.

Kwale Governor Fatuma Achani has raised an alarm about parents allegedly trying to forge their children's results to secure full county government scholarships under the Elimu Ni Sasa bursary initiative.

Achani said there have been cases where parents were allegedly caught changing marks to surpass the county sponsorship marks of 350 and above.

Normally, the county caters school fees for national school students who scored 350 from public schools and 370 marks from private institutions.

“Some parents are omitting their children’s results to have the full education scholarship. If it’s 300 they rewrite it to 350 marks which is very wrong,” Achani claimed.

The governor strongly condemned the act adding that it is against the law and promotes laziness.

She said parents should instead encourage their children to work hard for better results.

Achani warned that such illegality will not be tolerated since it denies other students, who worked hard to produce good marks, the opportunity to progress further.

She said the county is vigilant and whoever will be found culpable, the law will take its course.

The governor, however, said the county will not let any child remain behind for lack of school fees.

She said her administration prioritizes education and will support parents to educate their children and get quality education.

Achani urged the ward administrators to distribute the bursary fairly and ensure the targeted group benefits and that parents are relieved from the burden of school fees.

The county boss said that she won’t have peace seeing young lives being wasted because parents are unable to pay school fees.

She told parents to embrace the bursary initiative and give the county much-needed support to keep the program running.

“The county will pay school fees and you also take your part by buying uniforms and ensuring children produce good grades,” she said.

Achani said the county spends millions of money for the bursary program and it would only be fair if students strive to get desirable academic results for accountability.

She urged the students not to let the county down and to concentrate on their studies to change the status of their families and improve their lives.

She made the remarks while issuing bursary cheques worth Sh35 million to 923 Foem one national school students from across the 17 wards at Kwale headquarters in Matuga subcounty on Sunday.

At least 4,309 students are currently being fully sponsored in various national schools by the county government and the number is set to rise.

Achani said the county has so far spent over sh147 million on national school students alone this financial year.

She said more money would be used for the remaining thousands of students who are in day schools, universities and colleges.

Achani said the county has ensured that the bursary funds are deposited early enough to various learning institutions so that students will report on time for smooth studying.

The governor said she promised good service delivery to the Kwale people and her administration is determined to accomplish every agenda to empower locals and transform the county.

She said the residents should expect more development projects for water, health, roads and infrastructure among others.
