Most parts of the country are expected to remain dry this week, the latest forecast by the weatherman shows.
The seven-day weather forecast by the Kenya Metrological Department for the period between January 23 to January 29, however, shows that a few areas are likely to receive light to moderate rainfall.
These are a few areas in the South Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley and the Coast.
“High average daytime (maximum) temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius will be experienced over the Coast, Northeastern and North-western Kenya,” the forecast says.
According to the weather report, Mombasa, Mtwapa, Lamu and Malindi will record daytime temperatures of 36, 35, 34 and 33 degrees Celsius respectively.
Mandera, Garissa, Moyale and Marsabit will record temperatures as high as 39, 38, 33 and 29 degrees Celsius respectively.
The weatherman says a few areas in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley will experience low temperatures of less than 10 degrees Celsius at night.
According to the forecast, parts of the counties in the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley will record morning rains.
“Afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places,” the weatherman says.
These counties include Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot.
Temperatures in Kisumu are expected to be as high as 28 degrees Celsius during the day, and drop to as low as 14 degrees Celsius in Nakuru at night.
The Coast counties of Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale are predicted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
“However, occasional morning and afternoon showers are expected over few places,” the forecast says.
North-western Kenya counties of Turkana and Samburu will experience sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
During the forecast period, temperatures are predicted to rise to as high as 38 degrees Celsius in Lodwar during the day and drop to 23 degrees Celsius at night.
However, occasional morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers are expected over a few places during the second half of the forecast period.
Counties in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley which include Nairobi, Kiambu, Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Meru, Embu and Tharaka-Nithi will record occasional cloudiness in the morning giving way to sunny intervals with afternoon and night showers over few places.
North-eastern Kenya counties of Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo are predicted to have sunny days and partly cloudy nights.
Counties in the southeastern lowlands which include Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta will experience occasional cloudiness in the morning giving way to sunny intervals.
Afternoon and night showers are likely to occur over a few places during the second half of the forecast period, the weatherman says.
During the forecast period, temperatures in Nyahururu and Laikipia are predicted to drop to as low as 10 degrees Celsius at night.
