Detectives are investigating death threats on the life of a clerk at the Maralal Law Court after he found a bullet on his table.

The clerk had earlier on September 16, 2023, reported to police that his life was in danger.

On January 22 at 1 pm, the clerk went to his rented house for lunch in Maralal Trading Centre and noticed a hole in the wall.

He told police on further observation he saw a bullet head on the table. It was then he rushed to the police and reported the matter.

Police visited the scene and picked up the bullet head for ballistic analysis.

The security officer handling the matter said they are yet to establish the motive and make an arrest.

“We do not know who was behind the incident and the motivation. We are investigating to know more,” an official aware of the probe said.

Plans were underway on Wednesday to enhance the security of the clerk.

The area generally experiences incidents of insecurity due to banditry attacks.

But police said because the clerk had reported threats to his life, they are taking action.

More personnel have been sent to the area to tame the attacks which have displaced many.

Elsewhere, police are investigating an incident in which a three-year-old was killed in a fire incident in a village in Nyamira.

The incident happened in Kiabira village and affected a semi-permanent house, police said.

Police established that the cause of the fire was a result of a candle the owner of the house lit and placed near the bed and left to attend a burial ceremony.

The owner left two juveniles aged three and one year respectively sleeping.

The candle dropped and lit the fire killing one of the children, police said.

The other child was saved and rushed to hospital. Police said they are investigating the Monday morning tragedy.
