Gunmen shot and injured a 25-year-old woman in a failed robbery mission in Samburu North, Samburu County.

Police said a gang planned to steal animals from the area when they met resistance on Tuesday, January 23.

This prompted them to shoot at various manyattas in Morijo village as they retreated.

This left the woman with bullet wounds in the chest and left hand.

She was rushed to Samburu County Referral Hospital where she was admitted in a serious condition.

No livestock were stolen during the drama and no arrest has been made, police said.

This is the latest such incident to happen in the area amid a sustained operation to address the menace.

It came as police warned of increased cases where gunmen target vehicles on various roads in Samburu and rob them of valuables and cash.

The victims include tourists and locals using cars to travel.

In the past week alone, up to seven cars have been attacked by gunmen.

Police say some of the incidents were violent after the gunmen targeted motorists who defied orders to stop and shot at them.

In one of the incidents along Morijo- Maralal Road, three missionaries were shot at as they raced towards Maralal town on Tuesday evening.

They managed to drive to Maralal police station with a damaged car and reported the matter.

Along Lorok- Lemogo- Maralal Road, two motorists said they were stopped by gunmen who shot into the air to stop the movement.

The gunmen robbed them of their valuables and an unknown amount of money and vanished into the bushes.

Police officers visited the scene and patrolled the area but no arrest or recovery was made.
