Radioa Africa Group has condoled with the family and friends of Kisumu-based Star reporter Dickens Wasonga who died in a road accident Friday morning.

In a statement, the Group’s head of content Paul Ilado said they received the “devastating news” of his demise with great sadness and are still coming to terms with it.

“It is with deep sadness and a heavy heart that we mourn the untimely passing of our colleague,” Ilado said in a statement.

In his tribute, Ilado said Wasonga was a dedicated and talented journalist.

“Wasonga was not only a valued member of our team but also a shining example of commitment, hard work, and reliability,” he said.

“He possessed an unwavering passion for his craft and consistently demonstrated his professionalism in his coverage of news especially politics earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and the wider community,” he added.

His dedication to uncovering the truth and his unwavering pursuit of journalistic integrity, he noted, set him apart as a respected and admired journalist.

He noted that beyond his professional achievements, Wasonga was a warm and amiable individual who fostered strong relationships with those around him.

“His infectious enthusiasm and genuine kindness touched the lives of many, leaving a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of working with him,” he stated.

His legacy, he noted, will continue to inspire and guide the Group as it strives to uphold the principles and values he held dear.

Wasonga was involved in a head-on collision accident in Mamboleo along the Kakamega-Kisumu road. 

Until his death, he was the chairman of the Kisumu Journalists Network (KJN) having been elected in November 2023.

Wasonga emerged as the winner following the bruising elections, where he garnered 47 votes while his closest contender Rushdie Oudia garnered 24 votes.
