In a bid for a 100 percent transition to secondary schools, a Kisumu politician has started the process of combing villages to flush out needy students.

Fred Odumo, a Nairobi based lawyer has taken the initiative to ensure no child is left behind in terms of education.

Odumo says education remains the only equalizer in life and he will strive to assist where possible.

“I am giving out from my personal resources so that we do 100 percent transition of those who did KCPE to secondary school,” he said.

The idea was spearheaded by former Education Cabinet Secretary, the late Prof George Magoha who walked into slums and villages to send needy students to schools.

Odumo, who has set his eyes for Kisumu Senatorial seat in 2027, said helping students to access education is the surest way to ensure a brighter future in the society.

“These children are the future leaders, if we abandon them then the future is bleak,” he said.

Speaking in Mtwala Secondary School in Muhoroni where he issued school cheques worth Sh100,000 to 15 students, Odumo said he will not abandon the students he is supporting.

Already, 20 students in Nyando subcounty have benefited from the same program as he promises to move to Nyakach before scaling it up to other sub counties.

“Am giving this assurance to the parents, you will never walk alone. I will ensure that I am with you as long as God gives me life,” he said.

The students who were supported will report to Mtwala Secondary School, Mnara Secondary School, Mariwa Mixed Secondary and Our Lady Queen of Peace School, on Monday.

“I am supporting students in day schools, within the locality so that the money circulates within us and allow our children to return home and help the parents with other chores,” he said.

A parent, Penina Ominde said they are overwhelmed by the support towards the education of their children.

“We heard about this initiative and reached out to Wakili Odumo and we are happy that he has responded to our plea,” she said.

Ominde said many politicians hoodwink electorates with empty promises before and after elections but heaped praises on Odumo who is making an impact in many lives.

The students’ who got the support equally showed their delight noting that their future is now catered for as they promised to work hard in school.

“This is a good gesture to us and our parents must reciprocate at the right time,” said Pamela Ochieng a student.
