The government will sign a bilateral agreement in June with Germany to secure more than 250,000 jobs for the youth, according to PS Mwadime.

Speaking during an interview on Wednesday, the Principal Secretary for Labour and Skills Development said that the government is focused on creating jobs for the youth as they are the most affected by unemployment.

"Some 65 per cent of our population is comprised of the youth, the focus is on them as they are the most affected by unemployment according to the statistics," he said.

PS Mwadime urged the youth to not only focus on job opportunities in Kenya but also to go out and explore opportunities in other parts of the world.

"Be adventurous, go out there and capitalise on the opportunities opening up in the Western European countries," the PS added.

According to the PS said that the German hospitality industry requires skilled labour and the agreement will provide a way for Kenyans to get employment abroad.

"Most of the restaurants in Germany only open three days a week owing to the shortage of staff. They don't have cooks, waiters and people to attend to the customers," he said.

Mwadime also attributed the availability of job opportunities in European countries to the ageing population abroad advising the youth to take advantage of the gap.

"Their population is ageing... as it is, their industries have no young people to ensure continuity," Mwadime said.

He further clarified that the government signing the bilateral labour agreement with Germany will be a mutually beneficial agreement.
