The family of the late and former ICT manager at the Independent Electoral and Boundary Commission (IEBC), Chris Msando, is once again plunged into mourning.
Cornel Peter Msando, Chris's brother, passed away at a Nairobi Hospital on January 28, 2024
An obituary published in local dailies revealed that Peter succumbed to a brief illness at MP Shah Hospital.
The burial is scheduled for February 10.
“It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Cornel Peter Msando, on January 28, 2024 at M.P Shah Hospital,” the obit reads in part.
According to the obit, he leaves behind a widow and three children, with fundraising to offset funeral expenses expected to take place at All Saints Cathedral on the evening of Tuesday, February 6.
“There will be a church service at Consolata Shrine Westlands on Thursday, February 8 at 10 am. Mass service and burial will take place on February 10, 2024 at his late father’s home in Lifunga Kobiero Village in Ugenya Siaya County,” it reads.
This comes barely five months after Msando’s mother was laid to rest.
Mama Maria Msando died on October 13,2023, six years since her son was murdered, without having seen justice served.
In 2022, Maria revealed she still had difficulty sleeping every time she remembered how her son was murdered.
She regretted that justice was yet to be served following the brutal incident.
"The fact that justice has never been served for my family to get closure and move on, adds salt to the injury," she said.
Msando, the man who had been tasked with being in charge of the Kenya Integrated Electoral Management System (KIEMS) ahead of the 2017 polls was found dead on July 31, just days before the August 8 polls.
At the time of his death, Msando had only been in the job for two months after his predecessor was suspended for refusing to cooperate with an audit firm tasked with cleaning the voters' register.
He had gone missing on July 28, 2017, and four days later, his half-naked body was found, alongside that of a woman identified as Carol Ngumbu, at Maguga forest in Kikuyu, with hallmarks of torture.
He had deep scratches and cuts on his back, with reports indicating that one of his arms was missing.
Autopsy results revealed that he had been tortured and strangled to death.
