The Kenya Medical Supplies Authority CEO Andrew Mulwa has dedicated his African Governance Award to his former rural primary school.
Mulwa was announced as the winner of the prestigious African Governance Award 2024.
He said he is dedicating the award to the pupils at Watuka Primary School in Makueni County where he schooled.
Speaking when he received the award in Mauritius on Friday, Mulwa said the award reminds him of his life as a young boy who grew up and schooled in the village.
"As I receive this, I want to reflect on my journey as an individual growing up in the village," he said.
"As I take this award, I want to dedicate it to the pupils of my primary school, Watuka Primary School in Makueni Village where I went to school and tell them it is possible to come from humble beginnings and get to this platform," Mulwa said.
Mulwa was recognised as the "Most outstanding medical supplies authority across Africa".
The 2024 African Governance Conference and Gala Award ceremony is taking place in Mauritius between February 7 to February 10.
According to a statement by Doctor Baroness Paulette Kporo released in January, Mulwa had been confirmed as a winner after a comprehensive and credible awards selection process.
Kporo is the CEO and chief event organiser from The Business Executive media group who are the organisers of the 2024 African Governance Conference and Awards.
The process according to Kporo, involved Mulwa's nomination by the African public and by dedicated research consultants.
An expert assessment of the same compared to the other nominees in the category by a specially constituted international Awards Selection Jury found him to be the winner.
Mulwa recognised the effort of the leadership of Kenya led by President Willian Ruto and Health CS Susana Nakhumicha.
He said the country's leadership had worked through thick and thin to support Kemsa as an organisation and himself to be able to achieve the award.
"As I receive this recognition, I receive it on behalf of a larger group of people who have shown resilience especially as a medical supplies agency that went through the real shock and tests of covid-19," he said.
"We were able to rise and fall with the pandemic and be able to supply the essential medical supplies to the people of Kenya."
The win confirms Mulwa's outstanding contributions to public governance, enhancing Kenya's prominence in Africa's political and socio-economic realm.
It also confirms him to the world as a standard setter for public institutions across the continent.
