Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is this Saturday set to share a podium with Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro for the first time after the 2027 succession politics caused jitters among Mt Kenya leaders.
The DP is the Chief Guest at a fundraiser at Bishop Gatimu Kinyona Girls in Murang’a that is hosted by nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege.
The Nominated MP has listed the Kiharu MP as among the dignitaries who will also be present.
The event is aimed at raising funds for the construction of a multipurpose hall in Kigumo constituency.
"See you in my village Kinyona as we host H.E. Rigathi Gachagua at Bishop Gatimu Kinyona Girls, Murang'a,” said Sabina Chege.
The anticipated gathering is expected to be attended by various prominent leaders, including Irungu Kang’ata (Governor), Joseph Munyoro (Kigumo) and Betty Maina (Women Representative).
Others include Ndindi Nyoro (Kiharu), Mary Maua (Maragwa), Edward Mureu (Gatanga), Joseph Nyutu (Senator), and Chege Njuguna (Gatanga) among others.
Gachagua has been actively engaged in fostering unity and growth of the Mount Kenya region by bringing all leaders irrespective of political affiliations.
Already, he has toured Nyandarua, Nyeri, Kirinyaga and now Murang’a county meeting with various leaders.
On Friday, The DP toured Kirinyaga County accompanied by leaders among them Kirinyaga governor Ann Waiguru where he launched several projects.
Gachagua on Friday during the Kirinyaga tour said attempts to divide the Mount Kenya region based on succession politics would not be tolerated.
He urged leaders to unite and refrain from engaging in divisive political manoeuvres.
"Those scheming to divide the region should know that the people of Mt Kenya are intelligent and aware of what is happening. Those seeking to divide us are enemies of the region," he emphasized.
Political analyst Albert Kasembeli has noted that the Murang’a event may play a crucial role in reconciling leaders across the Mount Kenya region.
He said that the DP will have an opportunity to speak with the region leaders who seem divided
Notably, MP Edward Muriu and Senator Joe Nyutu are expected to meet Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua in a public event for the first time since endorsing Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro as a suitable candidate for the deputy position in 2027.
Jane Njeri, Kirinyaga Women Representative, urged central leaders to unite behind Gachagua for the sake of regional unity and growth.
"The mountain must remain united, and we will fully rally behind President Ruto and DP Gachagua. We will not allow anyone to divide us on succession grounds," she asserted.
A week ago, Nyoro dismissed the concerns, saying Kenya Kwanza leaders from the region are fully united behind the leadership of Ruto and Gachagua.
“As members of Kenya Kwanza, all of us have given our President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua total and unconditional support as they lead our nation,” he said.
Kikuyu Council of elder national chairman Wachira Kiago recently called on leaders of the Mount Kenya region to unite irrespective of political affiliations.
Kiago noted that Gachagua as the senior politician in the Mount Kenya region should be supported in uniting the Community.
“We should forget about the last general election and spearhead the unity call championed by deputy president Rigathi Gachagua and as a community, we must speak in one voice," Kiago said.
