ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo and Kisumu Senator Tom Ojienda have called on political players to exercise political tolerance towards each other.

Ojienda called for respect among leaders adding that politics evolves fast.

"Let us respect each other because you do not know how politics will evolve. The people you are insulting today are the people you will work with tomorrow," Ojienda said.

The Senator urged leaders irrespective of their political affiliations to follow one direction for the benefit of Kenyans.

The senator said even though he is a member of the ODM party, he will still work with the government for development's sake.

"I'm still a member of ODM but that does not mean that I can not work with and agree with policies that I think are good. Bad ones I will disagree," he said.

Owalo said leaders ought to work together irrespective of their party affiliations.

"We already did election, we will go back to the ballot in 2027. In between let us unite for the purpose of development for the benefit of the common mwananchi," Owalo said.

The two Nyanza leaders spoke on Saturday during the burial of Councilor Joseph Njiri Ogut at his farm in Songor, Muhoroni in Kisumu County.

The ICT CS said the government is working to bring development to the region.

"On development issue in this region, once we fix sugar, the second most important thing that we are going to is to sort out the issue of Kongo Soinda," Owalo said.

Ojienda declared himself a member of ODM despite recent calls by party leader Raila Odinga for him and others who went against the party's stand to resign.

Speaking on Sunday during an ODM recruitment drive in Nairobi, Raila said rebel MPs have no business remaining in Parliament on an ODM ticket if they continue working with the government.

"We have agreed that all those elected as MPs in our parties have a term of five years. If you want to leave ODM and join UDA, then leave Parliament and return to the people to be re-elected under UDA," Raila said.

"In Nairobi, we have Lang'ata MP and you know the rest. We have told them that we are returning to the ground and if you get re-elected on UDA, that is fine but we must go back to the election."

Ojienda, Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwour, Suba MP Caroli Omondi, Bondo MP Gideon Ochanda, and Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo are considered rebels for going against the party and working with the Ruto administration.
