Bumula Member of Parliament Jack Wamboka and DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa have said they are backing ODM party leader Raila Odinga for the AU Commission chairperson role.
Speaking in Sirisia on Saturday during an Azimio rally, Eugene said Raila is fit for the position.
"As the Azimio team, we want to give Africa one of our best. Raila Odinga is not just a Kenyan patriot but also Pan Africanist," he said.
The Former CS said that if Raila is given the AU job then it doesn’t belong to Azimio but to the entire Africa.
Further, the DAP-K leader said that Raila’s elevation to AU will allow other Azimio co-principals to be the 2027 coalition flag bearer to compete with the Kenya Kwanza administration.
"Azimio has already started strategizing and planning for 2027," he said.
MP Wamboka on his part commended Raila’s contribution to fighting for democracy in Kenya and Africa.
“We support Raila’s bid because he has always been on the forefront to fight for our rights and let him be given that top job,” he said.
The lawmaker also urged President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua to back Raila’s bid.
“The government should support Raila’s bid like any other Kenyan. The ODM leader is a statesman and equal to the task," the MP said.
Wamboka noted that if by good luck Raila lands an AU job, that won’t weaken the Azimio la Umoja coalition.
"Even if Raila leaves for a new assignment at AU, Azimio will remain firm. We shall take over and continue offering oversight," he said.
Also present were Roots party leader George Wacjakoyah, Sirisia politician Moses Nandalwe and MCAs among others.
