Kenyatta Avenue temporarily closed at Uhuru Highway roundabout

Motorists using the road have been urged to approach the affected section with caution

Motorists who wish to access the CBD from Kenyatta Avenue this weekend will have to use alternative routes.

This is after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) announced the temporary closure of Kenyatta Avenue at Uhuru Highway roundabout.

Kenha Director General Kung'u Ndung'u in a public notice on Saturday said the closure will allow for maintenance works.

Due to the closure, Kenha has advised that all motorists accessing Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue should use University Way, Utalii Street, Posta Road, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue and Haile Sellasie Avenue.

Kenha said the section under maintenance will be closed until Sunday midnight.

"The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) wishes to notify the public that there will be temporary closure of Kenyatta Avenue at Uhuru Highway roundabout. this is to allow for highway maintenance works at this section," Ndung'u said.

"All motorists accessing Uhuru Highway from Kenyatta Avenue will use alternative routes such as University Way, Utalii Street, Posta Road, City Hall Way, Harambee Avenue and Haile Sellasie Avenue," he advised.

Kenha has called on the motorists using the road to approach the affected section with caution.

The motorists are further advised to follow traffic signs and guidance in place as shall be offered by police and traffic marshals on site.

Kenha has been conducting several maintenance works on various roads across the city.

On Thursday, it announced that there will be a temporary closure of a section of Lang’ata Road between the T-Mall roundabout and the Madaraka Roundabout.

The Authority said that the temporary closure will occur due to planned road maintenance works along the section.

KeNHA said the section will be closed on Saturday, February 24, 2024 and Sunday, February 25, 2024.

The roads will experience traffic disruption from 6.00 am to 8.00 pm.

The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) is an autonomous road agency mandated to manage, develop, rehabilitate and maintain national roads

Its responsibility is for Class S, A and B roads.

Class S road is a Highway that connects two or more cities and carries safely a large volume of traffic at the highest speed of operation.

Class A road is a highway that forms a strategic route and corridor connecting international boundaries at identified immigration entry and exit points and international terminals such as international air or sea ports.

Class B road is a highway that forms an important national route linking national trading or economic hubs, County Headquarters and other nationally important centres to each other and to the National Capital or to Class A roads
