At least 5,000 needy Muslims to get free foodstuffs during Ramadhan

At least 5, 000 needy Muslims are set to benefit from a donation of foodstuffs in a compassionate gesture from well-wishers during the upcoming holy month of Ramadhan.

The foods will be purchased from the proceeds raised through a fun walk by Zakat Kenya in partnership with Premier Bank. 

The annual “We Are One-Iftar Fun Walk” organised by Zakat entered its seventh edition.

According to Zakat, the foods will be distributed within Nairobi and its environs on March 10.

Premier Bank marketing and communications lead Marolyne Adalla said the move to support the course underscores its dedication to making a positive in the community by extending a helping hand to those less privileged.

"We are thrilled by the overwhelming response, participation and turnout at the Iftar Fun Walk," Adalla said.

The walk was flagged off at Adams Arcade Mosque and ended at Sir Ali Muslim Club.

"As a show of support for the cause, 90 per cent of Premier Bank Kenya staff members across our Nairobi branches participated in the walk. The bank is keen on ensuring that its employees adopt a healthy lifestyle by keeping fit and raising funds to support a needy family while at it,” she added.

Zakat Kenya vice chair Abdi Shakur Mohammed on his part thanked all the participants in the walk and for raising funds to feed the needy.

“I would like to thank all the sponsors, schools, individuals and particularly our partner Premier Bank. The foods distributed will enable families to enjoy nutritious meals thanks to your commitment to walk today, may Allah bless all of your contributions,” he said.

The Walk was concluded at Sir Ali Muslim Club with an array of activities including a Souk Bazaar and fun day.

During the closing ceremony Premier Bank CEO Osman Duale stated, “We understand the importance of fulfilling Hajj in one's lifetime, we also understand the financial sacrifice that comes with it.

He said as a bank they would continue to participate and engage in partnerships and activities centered around financial wellness and literacy focused on women and youth.

This is through activities such as financial literacy workshops, seminars, mentorship programs and sponsorship of local community football teams in line with the bank’s mission to provide progressive, ethical, banking solutions while making sustainable economic contributions in communities it serves.
