Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has questioned why Kenyans including politicians are overreacting to the meeting between President William Ruto, his Ugandan counterpart Yoweri Museveni and Opposition Chief Raila Odinga.
In a statement on Tuesday, the ODM MP wondered why the meeting came as a surprise to many, saying that Raila is also human and can meet anyone.
"Why are people so mad, panicking, and running helter-skelter when Baba is seeking a job? Do you always want to see Baba jobless in the streets engulfed in teargas? He is a human bwana," Amisi stated.
On Monday, Ruto, Museveni and Raila held talks in Uganda.
After the meeting, the two leaders shared pictures of a visit to Museveni's cattle farm in Kisozi.
Museveni is known to be a pastoralist who often spends his free time looking after his cattle.
A statement by Ruto disclosed that the trio discussed, among other issues, the candidature of the ODM leader for African Union Commission chairmanship.
"Had the pleasure of meeting President Yoweri Museveni at his Kisozi country home in Uganda. We discussed critical issues that affect our two countries such as energy and petroleum," Ruto said.
"Also discussed was the declared candidacy of Kenya's former Prime Minister Raila Odinga for the Africa Union Commission chairmanship."
Going further, the MP said that people should allow President Ruto to campaign for Raila who used to be his former Pentagon boss.
"Let's allow Ruto to campaign for his Pentagon boss. We must never cultivate a country of political hatred that has no value to the nation," Amisi added.
This is going to be the best run AU since the death of Kwame Nkrumah.
Raila on February 15 declared interest in the AUC chairmanship seat saying he was ready for the role.
"I am inclined to accept the challenge and I am ready and I offer myself to be of service," Raila said after holding talks with Former Nigerian president Olusegun Obasanjo at his Karen home on February 15.
Obasanjo is reported to have brokered a deal that gave birth to Bi-partisan Talks which ended anti-Ruto protests by the Azimio coalition.
On Monday, Azimio's leader said that he is grateful for Museveni's endorsement of the African Union Commission job.
In a statement after the meeting, Raila said he is also grateful for President William Ruto's full support, as he goes for the job.
The former Prime minister said that they also discussed other issues related to the strengthening of East African integration.
"Several days ago, I accepted an invitation from President Kaguta Museveni of Uganda for a joint meeting with President William Ruto today to discuss the deepening of regional integration within the East African Community.
"Crucially, at the urging of President Museveni, we also discussed my candidacy for Chairperson of the African Union Commission. I am very grateful to President Museveni for strongly endorsing my candidacy and to President Ruto for fully backing it," Raila said on X.
