John Matara, the prime suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, will today be charged with rape and robbery with violence.

The move comes just a month after Matara was charged with murdering Wahu before the High Court in Nairobi.

He denied the murder charges before Justice Kanyi Kimondo on February 2 and was remanded at Industrial Area prison.

He is again set to plead to charges of rape and robbery with violence following a police probe that was occasioned by several women from the Kasarani area.

Matara was being investigated by detectives following the killing of Wahu whose body was discovered at an apartment in the South B area in January.

Her body was discovered in the private room where she had checked in with a man believed to be her boyfriend.

A post-mortem examination revealed she had been strangled, and a deep-cut wound on her thigh had severed a vein, leading to a substantial loss of blood that ultimately claimed her life.

Detectives believe Matara fought with Wahu before he overpowered and killed her.

His arrest was followed by a myriad of complaints from many women who claimed they had been his victims.

The suspect is expected to be arraigned before the Ruiru law courts.
