Engineers VP Grace Kagondu launches presidential bid

The 1st Vice President of the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK) Grace Kagondu on Thursday launched her bid to be the institution’s president.

She has been serving as the 1st VP since 2022.

Speaking during the launch,  Kagondu said she is committed to promoting an environment where innovation flourishes and implementing transformational initiatives leave an enduring impact on the engineering fraternity and society as a whole.

"My candidature is based on three pillars; innovation, transformation and impact. I plan to leverage youthful members of IEK to make an impact," Kagondu said.

She explained that she aspires to serve with diligence, to elevate and realize the awesome potential of the engineering community drawing from the dedicatedly established frameworks and collaborations.

"I’m driven by the passion to mentor our young people because they are the best brains of our population and they have managed to do engineering which is a demanding profession and we need to utilize them," Kagondu explained.

Kagondu has also served as the Executive Committee member of the Association of Professional Societies of East Africa (APSEA) and a past chair of the Engineers chapter of AAK.

She has also served on the Council of Kenya National Qualifications Authority (KNQA).

In 2018 she was awarded the Leaders and Legends Award for being a legend in Leadership in the built environment.

The elections expected to serve till 2026 are scheduled for March 21.

Eng Erick Ohaga is the current president of IEK.
