Residents of Bahati subcounty in Nakuru have been warned against mob injustice after three people were lynched by burning in two days.

The initial two suspects were torched in Kiamunyeki on Saturday while the third one was burnt beyond recognition on Sunday at Stoo Makaa along the Nakuru-Subukia road in Kiamaina ward.

Area deputy police commander, Mwangi Ng’ang’a told the residents to let the law take its course instead of taking the law into their own hands.

He urged them to cooperate with the police in the fight against criminal gangs that have invaded the rural parts of the country to escape police drag nets in their bases in Nakuru Town East and Nakuru Town West subcounties.

“The suspects you are burning to death could be dying with vital information that could help us fight criminal gangs in Nakuru, it is also fair to let them go through the justice system to know whether they were guilty or not,” he said.

Ng’ang’a said police in Nakuru were committed to eradicating the gangs through the legal mechanism.

“Trust the police to do the work they were trained and employed to do, mob injustice denies the suspect a chance to defend themselves, some of them reform and become responsible members of the society,” he said.

The officers also told residents to share information about suspected members of the society saying that this was the only way to defeat crime.

“These gang members are part of the society, they are your sons and daughters, it is better to report them and have them corrected through the system,” he said.
