AG Muturi: I'll ensure state's tree planting program succeeds

Attorney General Justin Muturi has vowed to lead at the forefront in ensuring the success of the government’s tree planting program.

Muturi has been assigned 500 hectares at Ngong Hills in Kajiado.

The government targets to plant at least 500, 000 tree seedlings in the area as part of the 15 billion trees target in 10 years.

Speaking during the event, the AG expressed his determination to rally the office towards achieving the set targets

"This area is quite expansive, and as such, you will witness an increasing presence of our team here in the coming months to ensure the growth and integration of the trees we've planted into the forest cover," he said.

Kenya Forest Service officers reported a 50 per cent survival rate of trees planted in the area last year, underscoring the challenges in sustaining tree growth.

Muturi reaffirmed his allegiance to the president's vision of attaining a 30 per cent forest cover by 2032.

He attributed the current environmental issues, such as floods, to historical environmental degradation.

"The president has called upon the nation to contribute to this endeavour actively, and we firmly believe it is an achievable goal. Regardless of our locations, let us collectively prioritize environmental protection," Muturi stated.

Environment Principal Secretary Festus Ngeno who accompanied the AG urged Kenyans to play an active highlighting the importance of collective engagement in safeguarding the environment for future generations.

Speaking in Muranga after the exercise, President William Ruto observed that planting and growing trees is the solution that will mitigate the effects of climate change, which include devastating droughts and destructive floods.
