Azimio leader Raila Odinga has flagged a consignment of relief aid to Kenyans affected by floods.

Speaking during the flag of on Tuesday, Raila said the donation his party has received from Kenyans is an indication that Kenyans care about their fellows.

He noted that giving has never made anyone poor and that as a party they shall continue to stand for Kenyans who have suffered the ravaging effects of floods.

"It is worth noting that no one has ever become poor from giving. The generous donations from Kenyans towards this cause are a clear indication that we all care for our fellow countrymen. This is the spirit," Raila said.

"As a party, we shall continue to stand with the victims of this catastrophic disaster and help where necessary in the spirit of oneness as a country."

The opposition leader added that while the rains have been a blessing to the country in terms of agriculture and ensuring food security, they have also caused devastation to thousands of Kenyans.

He further noted that it is the cause of nature that no one could predict that has led to the loss of lives, displacement and destruction of property.

"However, moments like these call for unity to face the problem together and holistically. A neighbour's problem should be my problem, a brother's misfortune should be the reason for coming together with only one objective, HELP."

Raila called on Kenyans wishing to support the drive to continue doing so.

The relief distribution came a few days after the Orange party called on Kenyans and well-wishers to support their drive.

The Orange Democratic Movement party last week formed a nine-member Disaster Response Committee.

According to the party, the Committee will coordinate response and relief efforts to the ongoing flood crisis on behalf of the party.

The party said the team has been formed as part of their response to the current National Flooding Crisis.

"Caring for fellow Kenyans. We stand together with the victims of flood disaster in our country," the party said.

Members of the Committee include Senators Eddy Gicheru (Migori) and Hamida Kibwana (Nominated), MPs Mishi Mboko (Likoni), Catherine Omanyo (Busia county) and James Nyikal (Seme).

Members of the County Assembly of Nairobi Peter Imwatok (Majority leader), Nasra Nanda (Nominated) and Abbas Khalif (South C ward) are part of the committee.

ODM Youth Director Benson Musungu is also a member of the Committee.
