State House has dismissed reports that President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua are not on talking terms.

State House spokesperson Hussein Mohammed who was responding to questions during a media briefing on Ruto’s upcoming trip to the US, said the two leaders have no issue.

“To the best of my knowledge, there is no issue between the President and his Deputy,” Hussein said.

“The Deputy President’s office is an office with all capabilities and competencies. If you want to ask any question or find out anything about the Deputy President, you can get it there.”

The reports have been fuelled by the alleged absence of Gachagua from key state functions.

Gachagua surfaced on Sunday in public at a church service in Nyeri after a week of silence in the country.

His whereabouts had raised questions, especially after missing 11 state functions over the period.

His absence was stark during Ruto's reception of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni on a state visit.

Leaders at the church service which the DP attended vowed that they would not allow anybody to create bad blood between Ruto and Gachagua.

Nyeri Governor Mutahi Kahiga said the leadership of Mt Kenya will not allow a few individuals to sow a rift between the two.

“We will not allow it to happen. There are people who just want to ruin this government,” he stated.

He said Ruto was humiliated and disrespected in the last administration when he was Deputy President yet he still supported Mt Kenya community.

“Ruto was disrespected and humiliated so much though as a community, he stood with us. We will not allow our son to go through that,” he said.

Nyeri senator Wahome Wamatinga said there is a deliberate effort to cause a wedge between the President and his deputy.

“It is only one and a half years since we held elections. We will not allow people to cause bad blood between the President and his deputy,” Wamatinga added.

It is not the first time such rumours are circulating. Last year, Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura termed similar reports a creation of the media saying the two were reading from the same script.
