Prime CS Mudavadi mourns death of Iran president, minister

The two were among a group of eight people who died in helicopter crash.

Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi has shared a message of condolences to the people of the Islamic Republic of Iran following the passing of their president Ebrahim Raisi and other senior state officials. 

Raisi died in a helicopter crash on Sunday alongside foreign affairs minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.

In a letter to Ali Bagheri, Iran's Deputy Minister of foreign affairs, the Prime CS expressed profound sorrow over the sudden demise of Raisi and his minister saying he was saddened by the tragedy

"On behalf of the Government of the Republic of Kenya, the staff of the Ministry of Foreign and Diaspora Affairs of the Republic of Kenya, and on my own behalf, I would like to convey my deepest condolences to Your Excellency and, through you, to the bereaved families and friends of the deceased leaders, and indeed to the people of Iran," Mudavadi said.

While mourning the late Minister Amir-Abdollahian, Mudavadi said he contributed greatly to the promotion of regional peace, security, and stability.

"He will always be remembered for his tireless devotion and dedication to his fellow countrymen and to the cause of the Government of the Islamic Republic of Iran,"  Mudavadi further said.

"May his soul rest in eternal peace, and May Allah give his family and friends the strength to deal with this big loss."

He invested his energy in enhancing relations between Iran and its friendly nations, such as Kenya," noted Mudavadi.

Raisi and eight other people were killed on Sunday when the helicopter they were travelling in came down near the border with Azerbaijan.

The eight included

They included  Amir-Abdollahian, as well as the governor of East Azerbaijan province, Malek Rahmati, and Tabriz’s Friday prayer leader, Ayatollah Mohammad Ali Al-e Hashem, a senior Shia cleric who was also Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei’s official representative in East Azerbaijan.

The five other people were flight crew members and the president’s bodyguards.

The incident occurred at around 13:30 local time (10:00 GMT) in a remote, mountainous area about 58km (36 miles) south of the Qiz-Qalasi Dam and 2km south-west of the village of Uzi, according to Iranian officials and photographs published by state media.
