The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service is on Tuesday set to release university and college placements for learners who sat KCSE last year.
KUCCPS Board Chairman Cyrus Gituai said the available capacity in higher institutions of learning exceeds the number of students who sat KCSE in 2023.
He gave assurance that no learner will miss placement due to capacity.
"The total available capacity for training declared by Universities and Colleges was 1,078,806 which by far exceeds the total number of students who did KCSE last year," Gituai said.
He noted that KUCCPS has the statutory mandate to place KCSE finalists to Universities and Colleges according to merit and their preferences, as well as maintaining fairness and equity in an efficient manner.
Gituai said that over the years, the Board has developed robust policies and internal control systems to ensure that the placement process is transparent, efficient, fair and equitable.
The Service has the responsibility to disseminate information on available programmes, their costs and areas of study prioritized by the Government.
The mandate extends to data collection related to university and college placement, development of career programmes for the benefit of students and advising Government on placement matters.
As at February 25, Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu announced that 60.8 per cent of the total number of candidates who scored university entry grades had applied for courses with KUCCPS.
"As of February 25, 2024, a total of 121,391 candidates who obtained C+ and above in the 2023 KCSE Examination had applied for various courses. This accounts for 60.8% of the 199,695 Kenyan citizens who scored a mean grade of C+ and above in the 2023 Examination," Machogu said.
During the 2023 KCSE Examination, a total of 899,453 candidates sat the Examination.
