A section of Mt Kenya leaders allied to the UDA party have pledged total support to Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

Speaking on Tuesday during the burial of the late Julius Kano, the leaders warned that the region risks being divided politically if they fail to rally behind Gachagua as region spokesperson.

On his part, Gachagua outlined that a section of Mt Kenya leaders have been compromised to divide the community along ethnic lines.

He said that the community will always rally behind the Kenya Kwanza administration vowing that he will not allow a section of leaders to divide the community.

"I know there are few people who have been compromised to divide our people but we will allow that to happen, our people are wise," Gachagua said.

Maragua MP Mary Wamaua said that the region has been politically targeted by the opponents and urged the deputy president to focus on service delivery.

“Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, do not be distracted. Focus. Those who are talking a lot today were not there when we were campaigning for this government. They were busy with other parties while others came in the evening," she said.

She said that the region should not be politically targeted and termed tribal when its leaders unite and rally behind their leaders.

"When other communities meet, it's not political but when we the leaders of Mt Kenya region regroup and speak in one voice, they say we are tribal, we will not allow that to happen again," Wamaua said

Kirinyaga woman representative Njeri Maina said that the Mt Kenya region will fully rally behind Gachagua and President William Ruto.

She said that those wishing for Gachagua to step down from his position are stretching the matter too far.

"Deputy president, we will rally behind you and President Ruto and those wishing that you will step down are mistaken," Njeri said.

Nominated Senator Veronica Maina urged Gachagua to continue working for the people no matter the opposition.

"I signed your certificate with President Ruto, I can ascertain that you are the deputy president and no one can take that from you," Maina said.

Kirinyaga Central MP Gachoki Gitari urged Gachagua to stick to his lane as deputy president and ignore the busy bodies noting that they will deal with them.

"Deputy president, the bishop spoke to you and said that you are second in command, we are your children and we will support you, "Gitari said.

Kirinyaga Senator Kamau Murango said that those who are traversing the dividing Mt Kenya region will not be allowed.

He noted that they would rally behind Gachagua without fear or intimidation.

"The mountain has been set against itself, instead of focusing on development, we are here fighting ourselves and having fat dreams of thinking we can inherit the seat that is not vacant "he said
