Police are investigating the death of a man whose decomposing body was found in his house in the Utawala area, Nairobi.

Police said the body of John Mwangi Wanjiku, 44, was found in his bedroom on Monday, May 20, days after he had gone missing.

His brother told police Mwangi had been missing since May 17.

He said he was concerned because he was not answering his calls, which was unusual.

He visited the house as he was away and out of town. He found it locked prompting him to break it.

It was then that he found the body on the bed decomposed, Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said.

Police said they visited the scene and found the body of the deceased lying on a mattress with blood oozing from the mouth and nose facing down with physical injuries on the head.

It is not clear where he was injured and who was behind the injuries, police and the family said.

Police said they are investigating the death.

In Kenol, Murang'a, the body of an elderly woman identified as Hannah Ngure was found lying on the sofa set.

It was also established that the deceased normally washed clothes as a way of earning her living and that she had been complaining of back pains.

The woman had been staying in the house with her daughter.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.

Elsewhere in Mwea, Embu County,  Police are under probe after shooting dead a man in a confrontation.

Police said a team of officers was on patrol when they were confronted by a mob opposed to operations against alcohol at the Kiandai shopping centre.

The middle-aged man was fatally shot in the head with the bullet exiting to the upper side of the head.

The firearm an AK.47 with 22 rounds involved in the shooting was kept in safe custody as an exhibit.
