Some Nairobi UDA MCAs have called on Kenya Kwanza leaders to tone down political rhetoric, warning that the current trend could divide Kenyans.

Led by Nairobi County Assembly Minority Leader Antony Kiragu, the ward reps said the current political undertones in Kenya Kwanza are uncalled for.

“I feel ashamed when I listen to the statements our leaders have been making over the weekend. They are statements that could divide Kenyans, remarks geared towards intimidating others and talk by people who want to look like heroes when they are on the microphone and before cameras,” Kiragu said.

Addressing a press conference, Kiragu further regretted that some leaders have been campaigning for UDA seats using tribal cards.

Kiragu also dismissed the one-man-one-shilling call by a section of leaders from Mt Kenya saying the mode of revenue sharing model will be detrimental to marginalised communities and regions.

"We will call them out and reject whatever they are proposing for us because we have no time for tribal politics,” he stated.

He called on the community from Mt Kenya to be wary of people who are out to use them to advance their own personal interests.

"We want to make it very clear that this overtones and ethnic clamour are uncalled for and we should desist from divisive politics." Kiragu said.

Over the weekend, Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi hit out at Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s recent warning that Rift Valley MPs should refrain from engaging in Mt Kenya politics.

Sudi said that Gachagua had no authority to direct any politician or leader on where they should engage their politics in Kenya.

Sudi accused Gachagua of fostering division by telling political leaders not to tour other regions.

Kiragu added that the Mt Kenya region voted for President William Ruto because of his plans for the country.

He added that youthful leaders in Kenya Kwanza should not let older politicians intimidate them.

On Saturday, Gachagua took his political disputes to the president’s stronghold during a meeting in Kesses, where he warned “young politicians” against interfering in Central Kenya politics.
