Nairobi UDA Delegates have backed Governor Johnson Sakaja for the position of county chairmanship.

Gathered at Bomas of Kenya on Wednesday, the delegates including allied - MCAs pledged their votes to Sakaja.

They stated that they are working to ensure that each of the more than 30 wards in Nairobi produces 20 votes for the governor.

On his part, Sakaja revealed why he decided to run for the seat, saying he aims to ensure the UDA party grows and is ready for the 2027 elections.

He said the need to unite the ruling party in Nairobi, is the reason he opted to run for Nairobi County UDA chairperson.

"Sitafuti hii job ndio nipate cheo. Even after the elections, I will still be a governor. I am here to build the party," he said.

Sakaja also said he will not falter due to attacks.

He maintained that he is running for the chairmanship to build the UDA party, adding that he helped the third and fourth presidents; the late Mwai Kibaki and former President Uhuru Kenyatta, do it, so he can do the same to President William Ruto.

"In politics, you keep on learning so the experience I have I'm going to use it here so that in 2027 we get the President, Senator, Governor, MPs and MCAs. That is why I presented myself to run for the chairman of UDA in Nairobi, ili tujenge chama yetu," he said.

He said it is time the party leaders come back to the table to help with building a strong party, one that is an institution.

He added that he is a strong believer of oneness and this will push him to become the right person for the position.

"Nairobi County has to stay united. We will unapologetically do that and ensure the city is one of order, dignity, hope and opportunity," Sakaja said.

The elections are expected to happen on Friday.
