Samia congratulates Mexico President-elect Claudia Sheinbaum

Tanzania President Samia Suluhu on Tuesday extended her heartfelt congratulations to Mexico president-elect Claudia Sheinbaum.

Sheinbaum recorded a historic victory in the 2024 Mexican general elections. 

Samia expressed her gratitude on behalf of the government and the entire people of the Republic of Tanzania.

"On behalf of the Government and the people of the United Republic of Tanzania, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to Her Excellency Claudia Sheinbaum, President-elect of Mexico, on your historic victory in the 2024 Mexican general election. Madam President-elect, you have my best wishes," Samia said.

Sheinbaum emerged as the first Mexican female President at the age of 61 after serving as Mexico City's Mayor from 2018 to 2023. 

Mexico for the first time in history elected its first female president during the 2024 general elections in the country.  

She is also the first Jewish person to be elected President of Mexico after securing a landslide victory. 

News of Mexico electing its first female president has been met with excitement in foreign states including Kenya.

It was a landmark achievement that has been positively received around the world.

In Kenya, a section of leaders have hailed Sheinbaum as a woman who has broken the gender barrier not only in her country but across the borders where her victory is being embraced wholeheartedly.

In a statement on X, Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba congratulated Sheinbaum saying her win demonstrates that the future is bright for all women.

In her victory speech, she told voters she would not fail them.

Her supporters celebrated at the Zócalo, Mexico City's main square, waving banners reading "Claudia Sheinbaum, the President".
