United Democratic Alliance (UDA) leadership in Kitui County has declared that there shall be no boardroom meetings to fill various positions in the party.

The group under the leadership of Kitui East MP Nimrod Mbai has instead insisted that whoever is interested in any party position must subject themselves to an election.

"We want to state categorically that there shall be no boardroom agreements whatsoever," Zombe/Mwitika MCA Laban Malinga said in a joint statement at a meeting in Kitui.

Malinga maintained that anybody who is interested in party leadership “must seek mandate from the electorate," Malinga said.

Several camps have since emerged in Kitui County as the party prepares for grassroots elections.

Two camps led Kitui Rural MP Rachael Nyamai and former Kitui Gubernatorial candidate Jonathan Mueke, who is Agriculture PS, announced their support for Mbai.

The camps said they will now work together and deliver a win for grassroots elections.

Mueke and Nyamai camps declared their unequivocal support for Mbai, who is eyeing the County Chairmanship position.

Addressing the meeting, Mbai vowed to deliver majority of the seats to UDA in the 2027 general elections.

"So far, Mbai is the only MP elected under UDA in Kitui County," he noted.

Mbai said that UDA would identify candidates early and prepare them for the 2027 elections to guarantee a win.

In the meeting, leaders who defected from other parties to UDA were present.

These included Augustine Kasolo from Wiper party (Kitui Rural), Emmah Kitemange from Maendeleo Chap Chap (former Kitui County MP candidate), and former Zombe/Mwitika ward MCA Mwathi Katheke from Jubilee party.

On Sunday, Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja exuded confidence in clinching the Nairobi UDA chairmanship seat following the conclusion of delegates’ elections on Friday.

The county boss is facing fierce competition from Embakasi North MP James Gakuya who has received the backing of DP Rigathi Gachagua.

He maintained that he is running for the chairmanship to build the UDA party.
